Wreaths have been around for a long time. They tend to be round in shape, although not just circles. Some are oblong or heart shaped. However, you can make a wreath-inspired decoration for the interior or exterior of your home using other shapes. If you want to use round wreaths, try doing something different with them.
For a new twist on standard wreaths, add a pair of them, one on each side of the doorframe, instead of the standard one in the center of the door. You can also use smaller styles and line up three or four vertically on the door. Add a long length of wide ribbon behind them as a backdrop.
As far as different shapes go, here are some options:
One good example is using a cardboard picture frame form, the type you use to create padded picture frames, instead of using a standard wreath form. Decorate as desired. Check out the fall color trends for inspiration. A rectangular wreath will jazz up your fall style.
You can also use the first letter of your last name. Use lengths of eucalyptus, other vines, long grasses, or willow to bend and shape into the desired letter. You can also use wire or even an old wire hanger to shape into the base for your wreath. Use floral wire to attach greenery, dried elements, small twigs or branches, leaves, or flowers. This option can be used to make extra wreaths so you can spell out a word like “fall” as well, for an interesting addition to the exterior decor.
Another cool idea is to create a wreath using an abstract shape. You can begin with a pre-made wreath, made of grasses. Detach the ends, wet down, and bend to shape. Alternatively, you can secure a bundle of long grasses together and then shape. Add filler and decorative touches to taste.
