I don’t need a good reason to cook. I would cook for just about anyone or anything. While nine months pregnant with my second child, I once catered a party for a friend. . .of a cousin of a friend. However, when I happened upon the Cook for the Cure website my interest perked. Cooking? A good cause? I’m there.
Cook for the Cure is a national campaign in which anyone can participate to raise money for breast cancer research. Proceeds from any Cook for the Cure event as well as proceeds from Cook for the Cure sales go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. There are several ways to participate:
A Little Pink for Your Kitchen?
Kitchen Aid has produced a line of its quality products in the color pink. You can choose from food processors, mixers (and I am compelled to add here that I love my Kitchen Aid stand mixer), hand mixers, blenders or toasters. For every item purchased, Kitchen Aid donates up to $50 to the foundation. This is one instance in which you can splurge and feel good about it!
Host a Dinner Party
You can host a Cook for the Cure dinner party. It’s really very simple. Go to the website, and download a Cook for the Cure Dinner Party Kit. It comes complete with invitations, menu suggestions, recipes and other ideas from celebrity chefs. Request that instead of bringing a hostess gift, your friends bring a donation for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. After the party, mail your gift directly to the foundation.
Of course if you don’t want pink kitchen accessories and you don’t have time to host a dinner party you can always sponsor someone who walks in the Susan G. Komen Race for the cure, or you can simply donate to the foundation. Our own Heather Long, makes it a point to walk every year.
