Yum Yum Yum. That’s what comes to mind when I think about these donuts. They’re light but rich at the same time. They’re delicious. They melt in your mouth. Best of all, they’re EASY. They’re quick. And they’re fun to make. So go ahead, let your kids help and dive in to this delicious Saturday morning treat.
For this recipe you’ll need:
1 or more containers of store-bought biscuits (any brand, any size)
Peanut oil (it doesn’t burn easily) or your favorite frying oil
Toppings:
For glazed donuts:
1-Cup powdered sugar
¼ tsp. vanilla extract
Milk (about 2TB or more—add slowly to make a thick glaze. You don’t want it runny and thin)
For chocolate donuts:
1-Cup powdered sugar
1/4 –Cup cocoa powder
Milk (2 or more TB-add slowly to make a thick glaze. You don’t want it runny and thin)
Various sprinkles, toasted coconut, peanuts, etc. Use your imagination!!
To make these donuts:
Unwrap the package of biscuit dough and separate biscuits. Using a baby bottle cap, or a soda cap (the plastic ones), cut out the center of your “donut” and remove the donut hole-don’t’ discard, you’ll want to cook these too!
Preheat your oil to about 350 degrees. Carefully drop biscuit dough into the oil and cook for only a few minutes on each side. You’ll want to turn them halfway and make sure you don’t let them get too brown. Add only a few donuts to the pot at a time.
Remove the cooked donuts and place on a paper towel to drain. When they are cooled slightly, dredge them with the glaze or chocolate topping and add any additional toppings you desire. For the donut holes, try rolling them in the glaze or in a mound of powdered sugar.
Enjoy. These will fly out of the pan and out of the house in seconds!
