Cookie Cutters: Not Just for Cookies

Cookie cutters are available in many shapes and sizes and they are made from different materials. While the plastic ones work fine for making cookies, the metal ones are much nicer for making crafts.

Mobiles

Use cookie cutters to make a simple mobile. Choose stars, hearts, or any shape you like. Cut a dowel rod down and reserve a length about 12” long. Wrap it in ribbon or paint it. Tie 12” lengths of ribbon to each end, then pull upward toward the center and tie in a bow. This is how you will hang your mobile. Next, cut ribbon in different lengths and tie one end to each cookie cutter, making a bow. Tie the other end to the dowel rod to hang the cookie cutters at different heights.

Stringers

This is a super simple idea and it looks cute. You can hang stringers on the wall, over the doorknob, or from a drawer pull, etc. Cut an 18” length of thick ribbon or wired ribbon. Tie a cookie cutter at each end and make a pretty bow. Tie a knot in the middle of the length of ribbon to help keep the stringer in place or keep it from slipping. If you prefer that both ends hang at different heights, adjust the knot to one side instead of in the middle.

Swags

You can also hang cookie cutters from a length of rope, twine, or ribbon to create swags. Tie each cutter in place with raffia, twine, or ribbon, and hang it over a doorway, hang it from a shelf, or hang it across the top of a mirror or a window. You can also hang cutters from strings of beads.

Tip: Choose small, medium, and large cookie cutters to create a nice mix, which will make each project look even more interesting.
