Cool Candy Cane Creations

left

They are the quintessential Christmas candy that will hook you with a simple lick. However, these days candy canes are not just for eating; rather, your entire family can have fun by using the sweet treats as decorations during the holiday season.

With the economy still in the dumpster, many people are looking for affordable ways to spruce up their homes in time for Christmas. Candy canes are an inexpensive item that can be purchased in bulk and used to create the following festive items:

Candy Cane Vase: Unwrap mini candy canes and glue them end-to-end around the top and bottom of a vase to create a unique border. If you are using a clear glass vase, you can spice up this project by using multi-colored candy canes. The end result will be an eye-popping holder for flowers, fruits or Christmas ornaments.

Candy Cane Bouquet: Forget about the traditional poinsettias and go for something a bit sweeter this season. Even young children can help put together a candy cane bouquet. Simply add large candy canes to flowers and greenery, and then place the festive-looking arrangement in a decorative container. Don’t forget to include some seasonal touches such as ribbon, small ornaments, or pinecones before using it as a centerpiece or placing it on the mantle.

Candy Cane Wreath: There are a variety of ways you can hand craft a candy cane wreath, though the most popular includes attaching the treats to traditional seasonal foliage or gluing dozens of unwrapped candy canes to a Styrofoam circle. Another option is to attach wire to the bottom of the canes with floral tape. Cut the wire to desired lengths and push them gently into the Styrofoam base. Embellish the wreath with a large red bow and a little fake snow, and you have the makings of a minty masterpiece.
