Cornflake Crispy Holiday Wreath

Looking for an easy, no bake, fun holiday dessert that borrows from the Rice Krispies treat recipe? Try this Cornflake Crispy Holiday Wreath! (Which can also be formed into a tree shape, as I did and is portrayed in the picture above.)

You’ll need basically the same ingredients as you would for Rice Krispie treats with the exception of food coloring and any decorations you may choose to add.

Ingredients

1/3 cup butter

1 package marshmallows (10 ounces)

1 teaspoon green food coloring

6 cups Cornflakes

1 teaspoon vanilla

Cooking Spray, waxed paper, or non-stick foil

(Optional) Candies, sprinkles, red licorice

How to Make

Prepare the plate or cookie sheet you’ll arrange the wreath on. Cover with non-stick foil, waxed paper, or spray with cooking spray.

Melt butter over low heat in large saucepan. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. (Note: the longer you cook this mixture, the harder the cooled treat will be.)

Remove mixture from heat and stir in food coloring. (Add more if you want a darker wreath.)

Add cereal gradually and fold in gently until well coated, trying not to crush the cereal too much.

Either coat a cup with cooking spray or coat your hands so the mixture doesn’t stick when you form it into the wreath shape.

Put candies (like Red Hots) or sprinkles on right away while the wreath is still warm. Tie red licorice into bows.

Eat right then while it’s still warm, or wait until it cools.

Tips

When forming it into a wreath, don’t compress it too tightly. It won’t look leafy and wreath-like and will make it harder to eat.

After the wreath is completely cool, cover it with foil or plastic wrap so it won’t harden to a rock-like consistency.

I made it even easier on myself and used a tree-shaped foil cake tin that came with it’s own cover to create a Christmas Cornflake Tree Treat instead. I found little foil-wrapped chocolates to use as decorations, but you could use foil-wrapped chocolate balls as ornaments and icing to make strings.

This is a fun one to use your imagination on!
