One of the great things about becoming a home-based professional is that you get to choose what type of home-based work you will do. If you enjoy living a healthy lifestyle, you may want to consider starting a home-based business as a nutritionist, a personal trainer, or even a combination of both. As a nutritionist and/or personal trainer you can take your knowledge of and enthusiasm for healthy living and use it to help other people to achieve their fitness and weight loss goals.
If you are considering going into business as a nutritionist or a personal trainer, be sure to check what your state’s licensing requirements are. In addition to any required licenses or certifications that they hold, many nutritionists are Registered Dietitians (RD’s). Personal trainers often have a background or education in physical therapy, sports medicine, or other related areas in addition to whatever licenses or certifications are required by law in the state where they practice.
You may already have the licenses and certifications that your state requires, or you may need to decide whether you can devote the time and money to pursuing the education and certifications that you do not yet have. Once you know that you will be able to meet the legal requirements for working as a nutritionist and/or personal trainer you can work on the rest of your business plan. Consider things like how you will market your business and who your target clients are. You may want to focus on a specific group of people, such as new moms that want to lose the baby weight or older adults that want to get fit but who may need to learn how to adapt their active lifestyle to their changing dietary needs and health conditions such as arthritis. Personal trainers and nutritionists are always in demand, and if you choose to pursue a home-based business as a personal trainer and/or nutritionist your work will have a very important impact on the lives of your clients.
