If you’re like most Americans, you’ll likely put on 5-10 pounds over the holiday season. You may not even realize it, especially if you live where it’s cold and spend your days bundled up in sweaters. But trust me, when summer comes around and sweaters are no longer an option, those winter pounds will ruin your mood—quickly.
Have you thought yet about 2007? Most people make resolutions when the New Year rolls around. Have you thought about whether you want to weigh more or less than you did in 2006? If not, now is a great time to start thinking about it.
It’s rare that someone stays the exact same weight throughout the years. Even if the difference between one year and the next is only a few pounds, weight has a tendency to fluctuate about five pounds.
If you want to lose weight, why not start by committing yourself to weighing less in 2007 than you did in 2006. That’s not some over-the-top, unattainable goal. It’s not so dramatic that it’ll automatically send you running for an ice cream cone out of the sheer horror of “dieting.” It’s a simple, attainable goal that you can achieve with a few changes in diet and exercise.
So go ahead—enjoy the remainder of the holiday festivities (in moderation of course) while they last. But remember to set some goals for yourself. Don’t let your weight fall by the wayside, only to have yourself step on the scale and find that you’ve gained much more weight than you anticipated.
So tell me, when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st and January 1st officially arrives—what will you do? Will you decide to weigh less or to weigh more?
I know what I’ll decide…do you?
