Couple scrapping is nothing new. However, here in the conservative Midwest it is rare to see a scrapbook shop advertise special male-only couple’s scrapbook nights.
Personally, I’m not sure why you would want to exclude traditional male-female couples, but apparently, there’s a reason behind the new trend. As I mentioned in a previous blog, the number of male scrapbookers is growing exponentially, and not just among the gay community. There are tens of thousands of straight guys, who have been introduced to the hobby by their girlfriends or wives, and simply liked what they saw.
Studies show that men, who are interested in photography, writing, or graphic design, often find scrapbooking an appealing outlet for their creative talents. In addition, men who are into genealogy also find scrapbooking a worthy pastime, which allows them to preserve their family research.
Regardless of your sexual preference, if you find a likeminded scrapbooking fan, then attending a couples workshop or convention together is something you might seriously consider. Many men often admit that being dragged along to shop for scrapbook supplies, pose for pictures, or help design layouts with their significant others sparked their interest in the popular hobby.
I can’t imagine having a husband who would actively participate in scrapbooking, but the do exist. My neighbor’s husband helps her craft pages, and she regularly comments on how the hobby has helped strengthen their relationship.
If you are trying to cajole your partner into scrapbooking, you may have a tough go at it. Forcing someone to love your favorite pastime can be a tricky proposition. I would suggest easing into it. You might consider gifting him with a kit that plays to his love for cars, sports or electronics. Finding materials that might appeal to his masculine tastes might persuade him to give scrapbooking a try.
