Most Mother’s Days are fairly uneventful. Maybe Wayne (known as Papa to Murphy, Tabby, and Mr. Meow) will make breakfast in bed for me. Usually he tries to get cards that they can all write a nice sentiment in. (With his help of course.) Once in a while he gets flowers.
Any and all of the above then become sources of merriment for the crew. Hopefully the flowers are roses, which are the cats’ favorite. Cards left unattended on countertops become prime shredding targets. (As do the envelopes which hopefully aren’t immediately discarded in the trash.) And breakfast? Begging time! (That’s Murph’s favorite part.)
This year, however, it wasn’t Wayne who delivered the neatest Mother’s Day present to play with. It started when the hospital released my mom Saturday. Talk about three critters being tickled pink to see their Grandma Dorothy back home!
But the fun wasn’t over. A few hours after I brought her back, here comes the Apria man. (Apria is the home healthcare company that is also responsible for supplying my mom’s oxygen.) He came bearing a most awesome new plaything: a hospital bed.
Wow! A new bed? One that was not only handily set up smack in the middle of the kitchen, but which also moved. Up and down, both at the head and feet. Amazing!
Tabby didn’t hesitate claiming it, or snuggling right in with Grandma Dorothy when it was time for lights out. She was never so happy to have her Grandma back. And even though it startled her the first time I raised the head area, once she realized she could get a free ride she’d quickly hop up there during adjustments.
But Mr. Meow wasn’t to be left out. Today he joined Tabby in claiming the bed. She could have the top end. He was content to settle himself on the feet end.
Plus Papa had brought roses, and cards for me to them, but then there were also cards from them to Grandma Dorothy. So many cards and petals to rip, and a nice comfy place to crash after pooping themselves out making a mess of everything.
Murph didn’t much care about the bed, but the fact that I slept on the couch downstairs and had a slumber party with Grandma Dorothy was a fun novelty. He had a blast sleeping on the loveseat and being part of the slumber party too.
And then when we all woke up we had pancakes. Even though he didn’t get much, just a small bite, he was happy to be included in the pancake festivities.
What a happy Mother’s Day indeed!
Hoping yours is equally blessed and merry.
