Cow Parade visits Boston

Cow parade

What fun. The cow parade is in Boston from now until September 5th. Come see over 117 life size cows painted by local and national artists. Okay I’m tempted to say silly things like, the Cow Parade moos to Boston. In press releases they call them Bovine Beauties, which they are. If you need more encouragement to come out and visit these friendly heifers, go onto www.boston.cowparade.com

You will see photos of many cows, Cowtucket, John Hancow, Sacred Moonument, Mooflower, Moo-rathon Runner, MooEngland Beauty to name a few…But moreso, you can read artist’s blogs which I found fascinating.

The cows are located from South Station, Downtown Crossing, Hynes Convention Center, Prudential Center, Copley Square Park, Boston Public Library, Faneuil Hall and Copley Place…See below for a more detailed list.

After the exhibit is over, 50 cows will be sold on September 21st at a live auction (Marriott, Copley Plaza) to benefit the Jimmy Fund of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The other cows will be sold online.

I’m excited because the art is accessible and it’s for all ages. You can choose to see a few cows or see the whole herd. If I had the money to buy one, originally thought to keep it in my backyard. Then I had a much better idea. Why not donate it to a children’s hospital wing? Or pediatric emergency rooms. That would be my wish. What would you do with your cow?

My husband, Harry, and I plan to go next weekend and make a day out of seeing the cows. I’m going to buy a disposal camera for our son Riley, 3 1/2 years old, and let him photograph his favorite ones.

Since this cow exhibit travels (New York City, Chicago, Wisconsin and other countries such as Norway and Argentina) we’ve heard from other family members how much fun it can be. Why not try something different for a family outing?

You can hoof it on your own or print a helpful map after logging onto www.boston.cowparade.com

Don’t forget to bring sugar cubes.
