A cowboy scrapbook–that’s what my 3-year-old nephew wants for Christmas.
After seeing the truck-theme scrapbook his mom made for his cousin, the boy is adamant about getting a memory book filled with stickers, stamps, die-cuts and photos of horses.
I offered to help my sister-in-law make one for him, but truth be told, I have never laid eyes on a horse-themed scrapbook. I assume they are popular with equestrians and farmers, but putting together one for a little boy who has never even sat on a real horse is a real challenge.
I did some research on horse scrapbooks and was not surprised to find that most are made for individuals who compete in horse riding competitions. The albums are filled with pictures of them posing with their ribbons, trophies, of course, their beloved equines. The books also feature memorabilia from riding camps and famous horse-related quotes, such as:
“A man on a horse is spiritually as well as physically bigger than a man on foot.” John Steinbeck
“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” Winston Churchill
“In riding a horse, we borrow freedom.” Helen Thomson
“You know horses are smarter than people. You never heard of a horse going broke betting on people.” Will Rogers
“O! For a horse with wings! William Shakespeare
In addition to quotes, a horse-theme scrapbook could also include a journaling block describing different aspects of your favorite animal. Next to the journaling block, consider placing a horseshoe made from cardstock. You can use the horseshoe as a frame for a photo of you and your horse or write quotes in it.
Another layout option is to trace the outline of a large horse on two scrapbook pages and fill it with a montage of photos. Arrange the pictures neatly between the two pages, so that they tell a story. Add stickers, stamps, button, ribbons or other embellishments as you see fit.
