Teaching the ABCs is just a precious time. It may not seem so special or fun on first glance. However, after teaching three children the basics, it is nice to revisit those old times and teach my preschooler the basics. It brings back fun memories and sweet time spent. There is an element of innocence and sweetness to teaching the ABCs that only comes around once per child. To celebrate these special times or to begin your new adventure, here is a fun ABC book you can make with your child and continue to reference through the process of learning the alphabet.
Learning ABC Book
Supplies:
A-Z Card Guides for Index Cards (I have found them in the regular index card size and the 4×6 size. I love the 4×6 size since you can add more and perhaps add photos.)
Index Cards
Hole Punch
Book Rings or Index Card Rings
Directions:
Use the “A” tab card as the cover of your book. Decorate with stickers or write the name of your ABC book. Use the hole punch in the upper corner so a book ring can slip through.
Use index cards as pages. Determine how many pages your want between each tab. You can always add more as time goes on.
Use the “pages” to create your book about letters. You can put pictures of objects that start with the letter you are working on, plain words to learn to read, fill in the blank words, or other fun activities. Determine if you want your book to have a theme such as ABCs of the Ocean or ABCs in general.
Make sure you use a hole punch to make a place for the book ring to slip through on each page.
If you want to decorate the book ring you may do so with ribbon.
