Here are a few simple craft tips and ideas. These will come in handy when the kids are bored, when you run out of craft supplies, or if you just prefer to make your own.
Fun with Scrapbooking Scissors
Scrapbooking scissors come in many varieties and can cut out many different shapes. They are fun to use and they are not just for scrapbooks. Your kids can make decorative mats from construction paper to accent their artwork, put a decorative edge on a homemade greeting card, or cut out different colored strips to glue onto a background for a cool abstract art piece. Let your imagination go wild.
Do it Yourself Party Confetti
All you need is a hole puncher and a bunch of different colored pieces of paper. Let the kids go crazy with it until they fill up a large zipper bag full of confetti. They’ll have fun making it and throwing it around at the next party.
Do it Yourself Craft Stamps
Here’s another project that is fun to make and fun to play with once it’s ready. You and your children can design and make your own craft stamps from sponges or craft foam. Just draw a design onto the sponge or foam, and cut the design into the material with a penknife. Glue an extra piece of foam or sponge to the back to form a handle. Dip it into some paint and have fun stamping.
Do it Yourself Craft Paint
Paint is made by mixing pigment with moisture and a binder, so all you need to make your own paint is color (food coloring), school glue, and water. Mix three parts glue, one part water, and enough food coloring to achieve the desired depth of color.
Do it Yourself Decoupage or Paper Mache Medium
Just mix two parts glue to one part water for a Decoupage or Paper Mache medium.
