While the chocolate diet does not encourage eating chocolate to lose weight it is still on the fad diet list. The purpose of the diet is to help those with chocolate addictions ease that addiction and lose weight. The first week no chocolate is allowed. The subsequent weeks allow chocolate in small quantities.
Basics:
Diet allows for no more than 1300 calories a day. Men can eat up to 300 more.
Exercise is encouraged and different types are recommended for different types of chocolate addicts.
Promises you can lose 7 pounds in two weeks.
Claims to alleviate chocolate cravings. (However, some say that it increases the cravings.)
Types of chocolate addicts:
The diet defines six types of chocolate addicts. The six types are:
Secret Bingers: Those who hide chocolate under their pillow or sneak off somewhere to eat a Hershey bar.
Romantics: Those who use chocolate to replace the void of not having a date on Friday night.
Comfort Eaters: Considered the most common type of chocolate addicts, this person eats chocolate out of stress or emotional problems.
Weekend Indulgers: Those who throw caution to the wind and have chocolate on special occasions or because it just happens to be the weekend.
Sugar Addicts: Carbohydrate lovers who use chocolate as a pick me up during the day.
Premenstrual Cravers: Women who eat chocolate during their monthly cycle.
The Chocolate Diet not unlike other fad diets is ineffective and potentially dangerous. While on the surface it does not sound harmful it is not a wise method for weight loss. There is no research to prove limited chocolate daily will ease cravings. In fact, many claim the opposite is true. The diet is too low on calories for many which will cause many to feel hungry. If you feel hungry on a diet you will most likely give into cravings and not avoid them. Again, we see the value in having a focus on health and not weight loss.
