Crazy Diets: The Cookie Diet

What is the Cookie Diet?

The Cookie Diet consists of eating four to six cookies a day that add up to about 500-600 calories. The rest of your calories will come from lean meats and vegetables. The caloric intake a day is 800-1200. It is recommended that you seek medical supervision if you decide to consume only 800 calories a day since you are at risk for malnutrition. It is important to note that if you decide to make the cookies and follow the diet on your own to make sure you consume 1200 or more calories a day.

The diet basically allows you to be mindless and eat cookies and lean meat and veggies all day until you reach your desired weight. While, that is certainly appealing to many, me included, I wonder about maintenance. The diet may “work” in the sense that you lose weight but it will not put you on a long term healthy track for your life. You risk gaining everything you lost once you go off the diet or having to make and eat cookies for the rest of your life. That may sound good now but believe me in time any food will become monotonous. Losing weight is as byproduct of living a healthy lifestyle and while achieved through some diets it can be dangerous or counterproductive to what should be your primary goal; your health.

The Cookie Diet Cookie Recipe

2 1/4 cups chex multi-bran cereal

1 cup rolled oat

3/4 cup non-fat powdered milk

1/4 cup unprocessed wheat bran

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 large ripe banana, mashed

4 tablespoons salted butter, room temperature

1/2 cup sugar

2 large eggs

7 large egg whites

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375° Fahrenheit.

Combine first 8 ingredients in large bowl, mix well with spoon.

Blend banana, butter, sugar, eggs, egg whites, and vanilla at medium speed with an electric mixer until well incorporated.

Add wet ingredients to dry, mix well and allow to stand for 5 minutes.

Divide in half, then half again.

Each portion makes 6 cookies. (I used an ice cream scoop to measure out the dough.).

Bake for 12 minutes on cookie sheet or parchment paper.

Cookies spread very little during baking. Allow to cool slightly and transfer to wire rack.
