Crazy Fundraisers…

There is no doubt that many schools and school organizations are short when it comes to funding. Special clubs, sports groups, and other school affiliated groups often do not receive money from the school.

Therefore, these groups are often left to resort to funding raising. Some groups carry out typical fund raising activities such as selling candy bars, doughnuts, or trinkets from a magazine. However some groups come up with much more unique ideas.

It seems that every year I hear crazier and crazier fund raising ideas. I am not sure where some of the ideas come from. However, I do hear that the craziness often leads to much money.

At Valentine’s Day, one school sold tickets to for high school students to have the opportunity to enjoy a candlelit dinner with a special friend. The students received a “better than cafeteria” food lunch, extra time to eat, and a chance to get to eat with the person of their choice. So yes the school (or organization) actually sold dates to the students.

Another crazy selling idea that I heard of involved selling pickles and pickle juice. The group sat up a stand one afternoon and sold large pickles to the students. In addition to the pickles, the group frozen pickle juice and sold them as popsicles. The children went crazy over them.

In another school, the children can buy special privileges. For example, for one dollar students can wear a cap at school all day. Other privileges may include being able to chew gum for the day without getting in to trouble.

One other school occasionally lets special groups sell popcorn and drinks in the afternoon.

The things that we do for money never seems to end. Children will beg their parents to buy almost anything. The ironic thing is that the parents usually will.
