Creating a Quarterly Chore List

So far I have blogged about creating a daily, weekly and monthly chore list. Now we are going to be talking about creating a quarterly chore list. Hopefully what you will find is that you are really starting to get a hold of your housekeeping and discovering an easy way to stay on top of things.

This is really the best way to organize your housekeeping. Housekeeping is something that can easily overwhelm us. But when you have it mapped out and you enlist the help of others, it doesn’t have to be such a negative thing.

So let’s consider some quarterly chores you might do. When is the last time you washed your window treatments? Every three months is a good time to do this. This also means cleaning your blinds. An easy and green-friendly way to do this is to take them down and using an old cloth, wipe each slate with some vinegar.

Vinegar is a great way to do various types of cleaning. But if you don’t like that idea, then you can always vacuum the blinds or clean the slates with Lysol wipes. If your blinds are plastic, you could also soak them in a tub.

Another quarterly chore is to clean your walls. This is a good time to spot clean splatters, handprints and scuffmarks from furniture. You could also use this as an opportunity to touch up any paint that needs it.

This is also an ideal time to organize your linen closet. You could have your children go through their closets and clean them out as well. In fact, any closet you have in your home will likely need a good cleaning out every three months.

Other quarterly chores might be cleaning the outside of your windows, shampooing the carpets, deep cleaning your kitchen appliances, and checking the batteries on your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

What other chores do you think can be done on a quarterly basis?
