It’s wonderful to wake up to a clean and organized home. I’m more of a fall cleaner than a spring cleaner and I’ve slowly been going through my house and getting it in order. I know some people who will spend an entire day getting their house in tip top shape, I’m not one of those people, I have to do it in smaller bites.
Every day I try to do something and it’s starting to a pay off. Slowly I’ve been going through each room in the house and getting it cleaned and organized. For me, the very first thing I have to do is get rid of everything that is just taking up space. Yesterday I rotated seasonal clothes in my dresser and closet. I’m not a big shopper but somehow I found two large trash bags of things in my room that can be donated to the thrift store. If you had asked me I would have told you I have nothing to wear, and while that may be true, I still have a closet full of things I don’t wear which is probably why I can’t find anything to wear.
Sometimes you have to be ruthless, the shoes, clothes, purses and belts that I haven’t worn in a year needed to go. My room is so much nicer to wake up to now. Everything is organized and there isn’t anything in there that I don’t absolutely love. I did the same with all the other rooms in the house. The linen closet got a major overhaul, another bag of stuff to donate, not to mention all the shampoos and things that I bought when they were on sale and after using one bottle decided I didn’t like them. Those will go to the food pantry along with everything in my pantry that sounded like a good idea at the time but now that we’ve tried it, no one will eat it.
Books are another area where Hailey and I seem to just collect and collect. We both love to read and have several book cases. I clean those book cases often and donate the books we no longer want but still, within a few months the books are piled on top of and in front of each other. I’m really not sure where all these books come from but they manage to find their way into the house so I have several boxes of books to donate.
The kitchen is one area that’s always overflowing. I like gadgets and appliances so I buy them often, and then, never use them. Or use them once and stuff them in the back of a cabinet because they really weren’t as wonderful as I thought they would be.
I seem to forget how much easier life is when it’s not over run by things I don’t need, things that are just taking up space and making it more difficult to keep the house clean. Now that those things are gone and the house is neat and tidy, everything seems calmer. I really should do this more often.
