Yesterday I mentioned re-creating a wedding wall. So what is a wedding wall? This was something we had in a previous house. When she was younger our daughter could hardly wait for the day she would be married and go up on the wedding wall.
It took us a while to get to it. After we moved, we put up couple of photos on whatever hooks happened to be already in the house but that was it. However, we always intended to put the wedding wall back together.
Now, finally after a lot of time, fiddling and patience, it is complete. The wedding wall consists of wedding photos of several generations.
In our case it starts with my parents. Their wedding photos are in the centre of the wall. A dear friend recently spent a lot of time restoring them for us. Around my parent’s wedding photos are several of Mick’s and my wedding. Then our son and his wife are around that and finally our daughter and her husband.
Some photos are in black and white, some in color. Because of the size of the photos, some are in larger frames and some are a bit smaller. It doesn’t matter. Most are formal shots but there was a candid shot from our wedding that we loved, where we are both laughing from something Mick whispered. So, it ended up on the wall too. We’ve just mingled all the photos together in a pleasing pattern.
Rather than having them all laid out in rigid rows, we have them in a more random pattern but you could choose an arch, a staggered arrangement, a cross or whatever pattern that appeals to you.
The thing we were trying together across, was the interconnectedness of family and generations.
I’m very happy to have our wedding wall back up and our daughter was thrilled to see we’d finally put it back together and she was up on the wedding wall. We’ve found, it always makes a talking point when people visit. Nearly everyone likes looking at wedding photos.
