There is no need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on artwork for your home when you can create your own. Top designers do it all of the time.
Last Sunday, my family and I were out walking around a local attraction. We wound up in a large and pretty cool tree house. The kids were watching some bees go in and out of a glass and wood hive, and my husband was enjoying the view. The light was just right, so I thought I would snap a photo.
Well, at that moment I moved a bit and the automatic focus just blurred everything. I was about to delete the photo when I was struck by how great it was. My family has blurred into a bunch of color at one end, while the stately trees at the other end were still somewhat recognizable. The lighting still was perfect, and I was left with a very abstract but striking image. I plan on getting it printed so I can hang it on our wall. I know just the spot for it.
While my chic artwork was pretty much accidental, that doesn’t mean that you can’t plan yours out. There are so many ways to make something that is chic and yet inexpensive.
Try grabbing a bunch of different canvasses and painting them with simple geometric designs. Hang them close to each other for a unified look. You can also paint on interesting materials, such as a wood pallet with slats or a textured tile surface for interesting looks.
You can also get creative with framing objects. A piece of interesting wallpaper could be framed, as can colorful pages from a large coffee table book. You can also photocopy and image that you like blow it up large and blow it up again and again, until you are left with an interesting section that is a bit distorted.
