Creating Storage Space

Do you lack storage space in your home? If you live in a smaller house or one that doesn’t have a lot of closets, you may be struggling to find a place for everything.

In the area of the city I live in, most of the homes are bungalows. Many of them have smaller rooms and few closets.

Sometimes you just have to get creative when it comes to creating storage space. One idea that my husband and I talked about for years (and never did) was to build a base for our mattresses.

Instead of our beds being on frames, they would be on these wooden bases where he would also install drawers. It was a great idea and although he has the skills to pull it off, it was just one of those projects that never quite happened.

Although my husband never did make those bed bases, he did make a headboard for our bed with a shelf. I have also heard of people taking a bookcase and making that their headboard.

There are decorative items that could serve more than one function, including the ability to store things. For instance, in our living room our coffee table is a chest. Inside is where I keep all of our sheets, blankets and pillowcases.

Decorative storage bins and baskets can be found in virtually any store you enter. They can be used in a bedroom to hold jewelry, a bathroom to hold cosmetics, a family room to hold books or DVD’s, an entryway to hold keys, or a kitchen to hold utensils.

You can even use your walls for storage space. Install a pretty cabinet and use it to hold items inside. Or put up shelving and make use of that.

What other creative ideas do you have for creating more storage space in your home?
