Never been on a Ribcraft? Never heard of a Ribcraft?
Then head to the Big Island of Hawaii and find out what the locals and tourists are raving about.
The Ribcraft or Rigid Inflatable Boat is all the rage in the Islands right now. In fact, the Kona Village Resort just hired a company to custom make one of the 27-foot vessels specifically for their guests.
The boat includes seating for about 20 and currently provides access to nearly two dozen nearby dive sites, offshore snorkeling excursions, sunset cruises and seasonal humpback whale watching treks.
The Ribcraft is equipped with ladders, which allow easy access in and out of the water. The boat also features on-board freshwater showers for added comfort. Prices for the rides vary according to specific activities and availability.
If you are traveling to the Big Island be aware that the only place you can experience a ride on the Ribcraft is at the Kona Village Resort. The property was once the site of an ancient Hawaiian fishing village and occupies 82 private oceanfront acres along the Big Island’s Kohala Coast. It is now home to 125 thatched-roof bungalows fronting the marine preserve of Kahuwai Bay. Reality TV fans might recognize it as the place where the original “Bachelor” tried to woo the now married Trista Sutter.
If your Hawaiian adventures only takes you as far as Oahu then you might consider heading over to the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach—especially if you are an avid scrapbooker. The hotel recently partnered with a local scrapbook company to offer a new Hawaii-themed scrapbook activity for guests, with an emphasis on all things Hawaii.
If you are a registered guest at either the Outrigger Waikiki or its sister property the Outrigger Reef on the Beach you can take part in the weekly one-hour scrapbooking demonstration for free. The class takes place every Thursday at 10 a.m. and the themes vary from month-to-month. The theme for this month is Christmas in Hawaii.
Guests are also given the opportunity to purchase Hawaii-themed scrapbook kits, including a special “Waikiki kit,” which features tags, journal blocks, button images, title bar and coordinated paper. Scrapbook paper with Pearl Harbor, Hanauma Bay, Iolani Palace and an assortment of plumeria and hibiscus designs are also available for purchase during the workshops.
