It seems as though a new trend has begun in the idea of wedding reception planning. The traditional wedding reception consists of at least a bride’s cake (usually white), a groom’s cake (typically chocolate), nuts, mints, and punch. Some weddings are much more elaborate but these are usually thought to be the necessities.
However, as mentioned in a previous article, weddings are taking on a much less formal and more relaxed tone. The idea behind the wedding cake has changed. Brides are now finding it more acceptable to offer their guests cupcakes instead of cake slices.
The time and effort that it takes to create wedding cupcakes instead of a wedding cake all depends on who is doing the baking. Gourmet bakers may find it more time consuming to dress up a bunch of cupcakes with special icing rather than creating one complete cake. However, more traditional bakers would likely think it easier to ice more cupcakes than to try to create a whole cake.
Cupcakes can also more easily be decorated by nonprofessionals with simple icing tips and bags. The cupcakes can also very neatly and elegantly be arranged on a cupcake stand.
Cupcakes also give the bride and groom more lead way for variety. It is much more difficult to serve different flavors of cake. However, a variety of cupcake flavors can more easily be achieved.
Cupcakes are much easier to serve. By the end of the reception, most servers end up with icing covered gloves and pieces of fallen cake and icing among the platter. There is also no need to worry with cutting the slices too big or too little. Cupcakes are pre sliced and ready to serve.
Guests also like the cupcakes because they are unique and often more enriched with icing. It gives the guest a feeling of having their own mini cake.
Couples can easily save a couple of cupcakes in the freezer for their first anniversary.
