Boxes are great for making costumes, and here are three simple ideas you can make from ordinary boxes, a little paint, and some creativity. Check out these super simple, but cute as a button ideas for pairs of trick-or-treaters or partygoers:
Pair of Dice
This idea would be perfect for tiny twins. Paint two appropriately sized boxes to look like a pair of dice. Cut out holes for arms and head, and cut out the bottom for easy movement. For extra special dice, cover the boxes in faux fur or fleece to make “fuzzy dice” and cut dots from felt to decorate.
Matching Appliances
For a boyfriend and girlfriend, for siblings, or for best friends, these costumes will make you look like a pair of appliances. You’ll need a large, tall box for the fridge, and a shorter, wider one for the stove. Paint the boxes and cut out the bottoms. Try the box on and cut out arm holes (and a hole for the head on the stove costume). For the fridge, you can simply leave the “freezer door” open or you can cut a hole in the top so the head is completely exposed.
For the fridge, slit the top and side so the doors open. Make a slit to separate the fridge and freezer doors. Glue on painted dowel rods for door handles. For the stove, cut up, over, and down, to make a door. Paint it black and glue on a dowel rod for a handle. Paint burners on top.
Make a cute washer and dryer by cutting a door in the front of one and in the top of the other. Add a control panel to the top of each one with cardboard.
Pair of Presents
Wrap a pair of boxes in wrapping paper (Christmas paper, birthday, or any occasion) and cut out holes for arms, legs, and head. Purchase or make huge bows and secure them on top of the head. Add ribbon around the box if desired.
