This idea is perfect for a child’s room but it will also work in nearly any other area of the home. If you need a way to organize jackets, bags, backpacks, accessories or even other household items, you can hang them up in style with this idea.
First, look for large, pre-cut, individual wooden letters to spell out your child’s name, the word “bath” or the name of another room, or maybe the word “stuff.” You can spell whatever you like, such as “home” or perhaps your last name.
Your child can hang up accessories to keep things better organized. In the bathroom, you can hang towels or robes. In the kitchen, you can hang up dishtowels and potholders. In the hall or entryway, you can hang up jackets and umbrellas.
Paint the letters to coordinate with the color scheme of the space in which they will be used. When the paint is dry, add a large mug hook or another style of self-drilling hook to each letter. You can also use decorative drawer pulls, knobs, or hooks, if desired.
Hang the letters on the wall at a height where they are within reach, for whoever will use the hooks the most. Line them up straight, evenly spaced, or turn every other one and stagger the heights, or hang them in a vertical line staggering every other one a few inches to either side.
For letters such as “N” or others that have more than one “stem” you might want to add a hook to each stem for balance. If not, simply place the hook or knob in the middle and be sure to secure the letter to the wall in a way that keeps it balanced.
*If you prefer metallic or ceramic letters, simply hang them up and then attach hooks to the wall beneath them.
