Cutting Kids Hair at Home: Girls

Cutting kids hair at home can definitely be a money saver, especially if you have a large family. I used to be intimidated by cutting kids hair, but in reality it isn’t that hard to do. And if you do make a mistake when you are first starting out, well hair does grow back, doesn’t it? I’m just teasing; you’ll be fine. Just read the following tips to make it easier to do.

For girls, it is pretty easy to just cut the hair straight at the bottoms and keep it trimmed. As you get more used to cutting hair, you can try for layers. The most intimidating thing about cutting hair on girls seems to be those cute little girl bangs. So let’s look at a few tips just on those bangs.

First of all, be careful not to cut the bangs too far back. You don’t want to start the bangs all the way at the middle of the head! Many people cut really thick bangs for two reasons. The first is that they don’t feel that the bangs are covering enough forehead, but it is better to have wispy baby bangs until the hair thickens on its own. The second reason is that they incorporate more and more hair into the bangs in an attempt to even it up and cover up mistakes. Don’t do this. If the bangs are really bad, just leave them, or have a professional show you how to fix them.

A really easy way to get straight bangs is to do the scotch tape trick. Make sure your child is comfortable and not squirmy. Place a piece of scotch tape across the bangs. Step back and double check the placement of the tape. You can readjust it if necessary. Then cut the bangs along the bottom edge of the tape.
