Do any of you parents and Disney fans have any girls aged 10-15 who are also Disney fans? Then I have a tip for you that comes just in time for back-to-school shopping.
Any fans of the Disney Channel’s hit “Sonny with a Chance” can now shop the styles of the show’s title character. ABC News reports that at the beginning of August Disney and Target got together to release “D-Signed,” a line of clothes modeled after the garb worn by Demi Lovato’s Sonny Munroe.
“D-Signed” covers pretty much every article of clothing and popular accessory: shirts, skirts, dresses, pants, hats, jewelry, and bags. I wouldn’t be surprised if some pajama wear follows when the line launches its next collection at the holidays.
If everything goes well with “D-Signed,” then Disney has plans to do something similar with its other popular characters. Next up would be fashions from Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo of “Wizards of Waverley Place.”
I would have been all over a clothing line like this when I was young, even though I didn’t really care much for fashion. I was, and still am, really, not great at putting assortments together on my own, be it a clothing ensemble or a room’s decoration. But I know what I like when I see it, so I’d often observe the clothing worn by a character on a television show or a movie and admire it.
But I’d be unable to put together the assortment on my own. If I’d had something like “D-Signed” at that age, I’d just be able to go to a store like Target and pick out clothes with minimal effort for a small cost.
I definitely think this fashion line idea is much better than the others inspired by popular television characters or the actors who play them. Wearing clothing plastered with favorite faces is all right, but I know if I admired the style of a character, I’d rather wear similar clothes than a shirt with a huge blown-up picture of that character’s face.
Also, I’m always suspicious of fashion lines supposedly made by teen stars, like Selena Gomez’s brand for K-Mart or Miley Cyrus’ Wal-Mart designs. I’m sure actual professional designers made the lines and just got a thumbs-up approval from the stars. That makes me wonder how the clothes I’d be paying for are really different from any other clothes in the store.
So I really like the idea of a television-inspired fashion line that includes the styles of clothes worn by its characters. If I were the audience for whom “D-Signed” is intended, I’d probably be jumping up and down by now. As it is, fans of “Sonny with a Chance” now have their own chance to live a little more in the world of their favorite show.
