Last week, it was reported that movie star Elizabeth Taylor, 78, had been admitted to the hospital for treatment for a heart problem. Taylor’s rep, Jamie Cadwell, issued a statement that said the iconic beauty checked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for “symptoms caused by congestive heart failure” and said today that Taylor will remain in the hospital “for the time being.” She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which is signified by an insufficient amount of blood being pumped by a weakened heart, almost seven years ago.
If you know anything about two time Oscar winner Taylor (for Butterfield 8 and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolff?), you know that she has survived many difficulties in her life. She fell off a horse while filming National Velvet in 1944 and has suffered from chronic pain and back problems every since then. She been though losing a husband in a plane crash (Mike Todd), eight divorces (including Richard Burton twice), a scandalous affair (Eddie Fisher, unless you count Richard Burton too), two rehab stays, skin cancer, hip replacement, a leaky heart valve – need I go on?
Despite her age, Taylor had jumped on the Twitter bandwagon, posting message to her fans. Of her heart valve repair, she tweeted it “was like having a brand new ticker.”
But, she hadn’t posted in nearly six months until last week’s tweet about an interview she gave Kim Kardashian for Harper’s Bazaar magazine. In the interview, Taylor said the venue gave her a connection with fans and “people who have been supportive of me.” She also said she loved the real feedback and two way communication with fans.
In a statement issued earlier this week said that “Her medical team is gratified by her progress to date, and it is hoped and expected that this will continue over the next few days.”
