Looks like there’s good news for you Cheryl Burke fans who paid to see the two-time “Dancing with the Stars” champ bust a move in person.
Doctors have cleared the flexible 23-year-old to rejoin her pals on the current “Dancing with the Stars” national tour. Earlier this week Burke contracted a mystery illness and was forced to sit out two shows—-including opening night in Seattle, and another performance in Sacramento.
According to a tour spokesperson, Burke “is not suffering from appendicitis,” despite being rushed to a Seattle hospital with severe abdominal pain.
Yesterday Matthew Lawrence’s girlfriend was examined by her personal physician in San Francisco and given the okay to participate in tonight’s show in San Jose, California.
This is the third consecutive “Dancing” tour for Burke, who is kicking up her heels on the road with her season two partner Drew Lachey.
In other “Dancing” news, Laila Ali and Mel B’s professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy is making headlines of his own—in Las Vegas.
The 27-year-old Ukrainian-born immigrant has been tapped to choreograph part of the Le Rêve extravaganza at the Wynn Las Vegas casino resort. The show returns from a hiatus Saturday with two new ballroom numbers that he created, but (sorry ladies) won’t be performing in.
In true Chmerkovskiy style, the arrogant, I mean, confident “Dancing with the Stars” hottie says he decided not to appear onstage because “if I’m dancing, it’s going to turn into a one-man show. This is an ensemble.”
The chest-baring, 6-foot-2 Chmerkovskiy says while it might have been a wise career move to dance in the popular Vegas show, he felt he could be more helpful by staying behind the scenes.
So what can audience members expect to see in the Chmerkovskiy choreographed numbers? The pro dancer says he tried to stay away from Le Rêve’s (“the dream” in French) traditional Cirque du Soleil-style aerial and gymnastic feats and water acrobatics, rather the flashy dancer says he came up with two routines that feature three couples executing ballroom moves on a narrow stage while synchronized swimmers perform.
I would say he has a lot riding on how well the performances are executed given that Elaine Wynn, wife of Vegas casino hotel mogul Steve Wynn and huge “Dancing with the Stars” fan was the one who convinced her husband to allow Chmerkovskiy to work on the new routines.
Talk about pressure.
