David Hasselhoff and Simon Cowell Leaving Reality Shows

There have been a few announcements the last couple of days that have really rocked the reality world. First, it was announced that David Hasselhoff was leaving “America’s Got Talent.” What? Not The Hoff? I mean that is just hofful, as he would have said on the show. It seems that Hasselhoff is exiting to do other projects. He told PEOPLE magazine “I am proud that I was part of making “America’s Got Talent” the No. 1 rated show for the past four summers. It’s been a rewarding experience and now I’m thrilled to be able to follow my dream to do my own TV show, which will be announced very shortly.” He thanked NBC, which released a statement saying “David’s been an integral part of the success of ‘America’s Got Talent’ and we are sad to see him go. We wish him all the best with his new show.”

David is the third person to leave the show, which will began its fifth season this summer. First was sole female judge Brandy, who was replaced by Sharon Osbourne then host Jerry Springer, who was replaced by Nick Cannon. Who will be replacing The Hoff on “America’s Got Talent?” None other than “Deal or No Deal” host Howie Mandel!

Even more shocking than the announcement of The Hoff leaving AGT was that of Simon Cowell leaving “American Idol” after this season, which starts tonight. Some are still not over Paula Abdul leaving and being replaced by Ellen DeGeneres and now they will have to deal with the controversial yet always entertaining Cowell bowing out.

Like Hasselhoff, Cowell is leaving to concentrate on other endeavors. In this case, Cowell will be working on an American version of the popular British show “The X Factor.” Fox issued a statement saying it expected Idol to go on for “many, many, many more seasons.” Personally, I don’t see it. Kara DioGuardi bores me, I am not excited about Ellen replacing the wacky Paula, and while I love Randy Jackson, I cannot imagine him carrying the whole show by himself.

What do you think?
