Day in the Life of a Homeschool

Today was not a typical day but no day really is for a homeschool family. I woke up later than I anticipated and walked downstairs to a bowl of half eaten cereal with the milk still sitting on the dining room table. My son and one of my daughters were up and playing. I got school ready and then tackled breakfast as my other two daughters got up for the day. I decided it would be best to get some chores done first. I sent my son to clean his room and my little ones to get dressed and make their beds. My oldest barely had her eyes open but she had the privilege of cleaning the bathroom. I continued to get school ready and got some laundry started.

School was ready to begin. I gave my oldest her assignments and she headed to her office (her bedroom) to complete her tasks. I decided my son needed to continue home ec classes since his room was still not clean. It seems we have a different interpretation of clean. My two little ones were anxious to go outside because it was beautiful out. So, nature study would come first, then recess, lunch and finally the nitty gritty of school.

My oldest was assigned to make lunch while my son decided he was finished with school but again our interpretations differed. My youngest daughter ran in the house and held up her hand filled with worms with a huge smile on her face. My other daughter filled up an empty soap container with water to bring outside. She was making the worm a home and surrounding it with a moat to keep the ants away. Both were sent back outside to put their new found pet back and then come back in to wash up. Washing up was interesting as my bathroom sink was filled with mud and toilet paper. My youngest decided to use toilet paper like a washcloth. Their supervisor, my son, had a different interpretation of supervising. I snaked the drain and then it was time for lunch.

After lunch, my 6 year old completed her reading, math, and history. My three year old studied the letter ā€œDā€ and the number ā€œ3ā€. She also told me her new name was Judy. My older children completed their work. My son took out the trash while my daughter decided to change the wallpaper on this computer to a huge picture of Barbie. It was time for me to work and time for them to read, play a game, do a craft or play outside. My 6 year old did it all while my 3 year old did every other thing trying to keep up with her sister. My son begged to play video games and my oldest decided it was time for the peace and quiet of her room.

Yeah, that is pretty much how it goes.
