Days of the Week

You can help teach young children to recognize the days of the week with these crafts and projects. Preschool age children or those about to start Kindergarten will be ready to go when they are able to recite or perhaps even spell each day of the week before even beginning school.

Days of the Week Song

Sung to the tune of “Clementine,” (“oh my darlin’, oh my darlin’…”) it goes, Sunday, Monday – Tuesday, Wednesday – Thursday, Fri-day, Sat-ur-day (repeat).

Memory Games

Write or print out the name for each day on an index card or piece of paper. Make two cards for each day. Play as you would other “match” or memory games.

Another idea is making up rhymes or sayings to go with each day. Mommy makes meatballs on Monday. Tommy takes turns on Tuesday. We whisper on Wednesday. Thirsty Thursday. Friends come over on Friday. Sally swims on Saturday. Sundaes are good on Sunday.

SundayRecognition of Names of the Days of Week

Use word scramble games or fill in the blank games to teach children recognition.

  • M _ N D A Y

Days of the WeekYou can also use coloring pages and craft projects for recognition. Help your kids make their own calendars, or have children color in the names of the days on that day of the week. “Today is Monday. This is what the word Monday looks like.”

Print off these images for your little ones to color. They include all upper case, as well as upper and lower case.
