He may have lost to British tabloid editor Piers Morgan on NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” but Trace Adkins’ consolation prize is going to make millions of soap fans very happy.
The award-winning country crooner and beloved “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant went from being fired by Donald Trump in primetime to being hired by CBS for a stint on the most popular daytime serial on TV.
According to CBS executives, Adkins has been tapped to appear on “The Young and the Restless” where he will sing his latest hit, “You’re Gonna Miss This,” from his CD “American Man, Greatest Hits Vol. II.”
The episode is scheduled to air on May 2nd, but the country singer just wrapped his scenes yesterday and said the experience was unforgettable.
“It was a blast,” Adkins told reporters after taping the show Wednesday. “I’ve not recently watched the show. My first wife was really into it. That’s not what caused us to get divorced.”
Adkins (who has been married three times) reveals that he has been keeping very busy since getting the boot from Trump. The Country Music Television award winner says fans can look for him playing someone other than himself in “Trailer Park of Terror,” which will be shown this month at the Nashville Film Festival. In addition, Adkins says he just finished shooting a part in the independent Christmas comedy “American Carol,” opposite Kelsey Grammer.
The towering country celeb says he enjoys his day job, but admits he would like to “do some more of the acting stuff.”
As for how he feels about getting so close to walking away with the title of “Celebrity Apprentice” but falling short to “that weasel Morgan” Adkins says he isn’t disappointed at all. In fact, he says thanks to the NBC reality show he is getting recognized a lot more these days.
“I’ve had a few people that have told me they’ve started listening to country music because of my appearance on that show,” Adkins claims.
I have to admit, while I haven’t started listening to his music, I did become enamored with Adkins because of the way he carried himself on “The Celebrity Apprentice” and I am looking forward to watching him on “The Young and the Restless.”
