You move a table or floor lamp and are left with circular dents in the carpet that seem to exist for days if not permanently. Carpet dents can ruin the look and feel of your carpet and can force you into a permanent furniture arrangement when you can’t get them out. Here are some ways of dealing with carpet dents.
We are enjoying our first experience with a nice carpet after replacing the awful vinyl flooring in our family room. The one thing I didn’t even think about when we were planning our purchase was carpet dents. Fortunately, we are keeping them at bay and preventing the dents from becoming a permanent part of our floor.
The best thing you can do is to pay attention to the carpet and padding when you are first making your purchase. Berber carpets tend not to dent as much, although the padding can have a lot to do with the dents. Specially made carpet padding is said to resist dents from furniture. You can look into this product if you are especially concerned.
Most of the time carpet dents can be controlled or eliminated with regular maintenance. Shift furniture around every so often and vacuum regularly. A regular vacuum pulls up any dirt or dust from the fibers making them more pliable and less matted. It will also pull up casual or new carpet dents.
For stubborn carpet dents, you can try this trick. Place a small ice cub or chip of ice in the dent. As the ice slowly melts, the water will be absorbed into the fibers, plumping them up. Blot up any excess water with a clean white towel and then vacuum over the spot a dew times in order to align and even out the carpet fibers.
