My youngest child is currently at the beginning of his first tantrum stage. He is so dramatic when things don’t quite go his way. He flings himself on the floor, and then lets out long, loud screams. At other times he may go a little bit away and turn around with the biggest, sweetest pouty face. He tips his head forward, and looks up at you with his lower lip sticking out. Seriously, it will melt your heart. He is trying to learn and do so much but isn’t quite sure what to do when things don’t go his way.
Sometimes I wish I could throw myself on the floor and kick and scream when life doesn’t go the way that I want it to. There are plenty of times when I’m sure I go off and pout about the way something turned out. I may not be pouting on the outside anymore, but I do sometimes whine or complain about it in my prayers.
When it comes to dealing with discouragement, it is important to be as proactive as possible. Look for the positive in the situation. This may change your attitude or give you the strength you need to keep trying. It also important to realize that the Lord’s path for you may not be the one that you thought it would be. The Lord has more in store for us, then we can ever hope for.
I also find that I need to take time to enjoy the moments and time that I am currently in and this helps to fight off discouragement. Always looking forward wishing, or looking back dwelling on the past is not conducive to leading a happy life. Increasing the time you spend studying the scriptures and praying that you might have peace and joy in your life can really help as well.
