In a previous article Deciphering Teen Speak: Words parents should know, I discussed a list words that teens use that parents need to know. The words were mostly fun and pretty harmless. Teens also have code words for things that are not quite as harmless. For example, teens have hundreds of code words for drugs. Here are some of the code words for drugs commonly used by teens that parents should know.
Drug related terms:
Marijuana has the biggest list of code words. Some of the more popular words are hood scratch, la la, Mary Jane (where can I find Mary?), blunt (cigar filled with marijuana), 420 (April 20 “National Pot Smoking Day”, bud, shake (leftover bits from a bag of marijuana). If you hear your teen referring to any of these words, they may be talking about marijuana.
Quality of Marijuana: There are also words that are used to describe the quality of the marijuana. Piff means high quality. Purple Urple or Purple Haze is strong strain with a purple tint or purple fibers. Shwagg means bad or poor quality. Bobby Brown is not very potent and brown in color. Dank is a sticky, hairy, strong type of marijuana. While these words are descriptive, they are also used as codewords for marijuana.
High off Marijuana: Some words describe someone who is high off of marijuana are faded, buzzed, and hotboxed.
Codewords for other common drugs:
Candy flipping means combining LSD, Acid, or Ecstasy.
DXM is A drug contained in OTC cough suppressants that becomes a hallucinogen after 900 mg.
Angeldust is PCP, a horse tranquilizer.
Snow refers to cocaine.
Rollin refers to having an Ecstacy high.
Saliva is a plant with a hallucinogenic effect.
Triple C’s is another cold medicinem, coricidan HBP cough and Cold. Taking too much of this is also a hallucinogen. It is also called skittles.
Methamphtamine is a especially dangerous drug that is highly addictive in addition to Meth, a word parents will know, it is also called Crank, pastry, and bath salts.
