Decorating a nursery can be a lot of fun. Okay, I know it’s been a long while since I did it, but I still remember the fun of getting a nursery ready for a coming baby.
One of the first things these days might be whether you know the gender of the baby, as many people choose to find out beforehand. This could determine the color scheme you choose. This was one I never had to worry about. I just found out when the baby was born.
If you don’t know, then you might want to stick with colors not aligned traditionally to either gender. So you might choose lemon, or green instead or blue or pink. Even if it is going to be girl there’s no reason you can’t have blue. Of course a nursery allows lots of scope for creative decorating.
You might want to buy or make a colorful mobile to hang above the bassinette or crib. Even the most non crafty person can make a simple mobile. I’ve done it and there’s probably not a person out less craft-minded or craft skilled than me. But with felt, glue and eyes bought from a craft shop, I managed to make two mobiles .One was a simple pattern of lions in bright colors. The other was an outline of an elephant. The trick is to keep the outline really simple.
Remember a baby is not going to be critical if it’s not a perfect rendition of an elephant or lion. All that is needed is something bright and colorful for them to look at. I had red lions with yellow manes and yellow lions with red manes. The elephants were blue and green. I chose predominately strong primary colors for these little touches.
You might also decide on a wallpaper border or frieze. At eye height or at about three foot from the ground could look good. There are cute ones around with fairies or various animals on them. A lot will depend on the color scheme you have chosen and the type of nursery you want to create and the type and color of nursery furniture.
