Decorating Overkill

I thought I was organized but right now it looks like Christmas threw up in my living room. Traditionally the day after Thanksgiving we put up our trees. Yes I said trees, we have three, the big one in the front room and two smaller ones in the family room on each side of the fireplace.

Three trees means lots of ornaments, not to mention my nutcracker collection for the mantel, the nativity sets that go on the book shelves and all the decorative boxes that get piled under the two smaller trees. I brought everything in from the garage yesterday and I’m amazed at the amount of stuff we have for Christmas decorating.

I love to buy decorations when they are on clearance at the end of the holiday, sometimes I’m amazed at the deals I get. Last year I got boxes with four mini lighted Christmas trees to line lime my walk for $3, who can pass a deal like that? Unfortunately as I was unpacking all the Christmas stuff I also found that I must have gotten a really good deal on old fashioned candle sticks to line the walk as well as there at two boxes of them too. Now, with the candy canes and snowflakes that I previously had I have three ways to line my sidewalk. Exactly how many sidewalks did I think I had?

I better get this mess really organized. I’m writing a list of ideas to organize it when I put it away so I won’t wind up with so much stuff I don’t need next year. I almost bought new lights for the outside of the house while I was shopping today because I couldn’t remember if I had given my old ones away. It’s a good thing I didn’t I have four boxes of icicle lights that have never been opened. This is out of control.

The really good thing about decorating for Christmas? Everything is getting cleaned and dusted. After all, I can’t put all my pretty decorations on a dirty mantel now can I?
