Decorating with Photographs

Taking photographs can be a great hobby. Photos can also be a great personal and relatively inexpensive way to decorate your home. Some people might want a collage of family photos and they can look quite effective having a display and it makes a house very personal and like a home.

Another idea might to take photos of your area or a particular feature that appeals to you like rivers or bridges, sand dunes or buildings.

Recently I entered a competition for photographs to go on a calendar of the area. It’s not that I’m an expert photographer by any means and I may not be one of the twelve selected winning entries for the calendar but I wanted to share my sunrise at the beach photo. What I might do anyway is get it enlarged to poster sized and then frame it and hang it on a wall because the colors are so spectacular, mauve and orange and pink and gold.

Or maybe I’ll get a few of Mick’s and my beach shots together and group them together to make a display of them. We do have a bare wall in the lounge room just waiting for something to go on it.

Another idea might be to take black and white shots which can look very arty of local scenes or close ups of flowers or whatever happens to be your thing. Our daughter once took close ups of things like bark, sand and other textures and they ended up looking really interesting.

Our wedding wall always invokes a lot of comment from people who visit. Our youngest granddaughter recently enjoyed finding Mom and Dad and her aunt and uncle on the wall but got a get confused as to who the other young people might have been. Maybe when she’s older, we’ll explain that they were actually her grandparents when young as well as her great grandparents who she has never met.
