We’ve lived in Texas for about five-and-a-half years. One of the things we decided when we moved here was that we wanted to try new restaurants and new stores. We wanted to embrace Texas and leave California behind.
Super Walmart and Super Target had not yet entered the market where we lived in California, so I embraced them completely. It was such a novelty to do all my shopping in one location. I was used to shopping at Target for non-grocery items and being able to save on groceries too was such a bonus. Everything at Super Target is so good too. Now that I have a Target debit card, I save an extra five-percent on top of the low prices.
The more interesting endeavor was finding new restaurants in which to dine. We were going to avoid the chain restaurants that we were used to back home in California. We discovered a multitude of steak restaurants as well as many Tex-Mex restaurants, which wasn’t at all surprising since this is Texas.
We gave up on McDonald’s, Jack in the Box, and Taco Bell in favor of Sonic, Whataburger, and Taco Bueno. I must admit, though, that we were really happy when Burger King built a location nearby. I miss The Hat’s onion rings, but I’ve been told that the onion rings at Carver’s are really good. The rings at Whataburger aren’t as good as The Hat’s, but they are still quite good.
Not long ago we got the news that In and Out Burger was going to build locations in the DFW Metroplex. Now I’ve learned that Del Taco is going to be moving out here as well. We tried to move on from the familiar, but affordable dining from California is still coming. What affordable restaurant will be next?
