When you purchase a new computer you are left with the decision of what to do with your old one. Many of us try to sell our computers to people on ebay, or give our older computer to friend who may need one. If you don’t have anyone to give your computer to, or your computer is too old to be useful to someone else, then you may consider throwing your computer away.
Many computer manufacturers offer computer recycling programs that allow computer owners to recycle their old computers, but the programs often have the requirement that computer owners purchase another computer from them before they will take your old one back. Other computer manufacturers may take your old computer back without a new purchase, but they will charge you a few hundred dollars plus shipping for you to recycle your old computer, which not only discourages recycling your old PC but for some makes it impossible.
Now Dell has launched a free recycling program for its computers. If you have a Dell laptop or PC you can now schedule a pick up from Dell where they will come to your home at no charge and pick up your old computer and then recycle it for you. The program was already available in Canada and parts of Europe but as of today will be available in the US as well.
Your computer can be donated to Dell who will then pass the gift of a computer on to someone who may need it. Full systems consisting of a tower, monitor, keyboard, and mouse can be donated to Dell and given to a person with a disability, a student at risk, or an economically disadvantaged person. You can donate your computer here.
Next time you purchase a new computer why not help someone and the environment out with the donation of your old one.
