February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Spend some time this month encouraging your child to take care of her precious pearly whites. If your child will be having her first dental visit, you may want to take the time to introduce your child to the dentist. Not all children are like my two daughters who love visiting the dentist. My other two children could take it or leave it. My six year old loves her dentist so much, she begs to go. I cannot figure out why. He is a very nice man but it still baffles me. So, this month if fun for my daughter since she loves dental health.
Here are a few websites and books to help you celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month:
Kids Soup: This site has everything from printables to crafts. All are perfect for preschool through Kindergarten ages.
DLTK’s: Have you visited DLTK’s before? For years, this site is a resource for printables and crafts for holidays, themes, and everything in between. The site has plenty of activities and crafts for Dental Health Month.
Preschool Rock: Another great site for plenty of activities and crafts for all occasions. This site also has math and science preschool lesson plans based in dental health. A great place for a more academic and unit study approach to the topic.
The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist: A delightful book for little ones nervous about the dentist. The Berenstain Bears never disappoints.
Sister Bear watches Dr. Bearson fill Brother Bear’s small cavity. Then it’s her turn in the chair to have a dangling baby tooth removed. An entertaining story for preschoolers of a cheerful and informative visit to a dentist.
ABC Dentist: Healthy Teeth from A to Z by Harriet Ziefert: A wonderful book that explores a host of aspects of dental health.
A trip to the dentist’s office is easy once you know the ABCs of it. In this book, kids will learn important words like “appointment,””cavity,””plaque,” and “X-ray.” Informative text and lively collage illustrations make this the perfect book to calm any child’s fears about the dentist.
