There are lots of cute ideas for designing and making your own trick or treat bags. Some involve actually making a bag yourself, while others simply require you to decorate a ready made bag to turn it into a trick or treat bag.
Tiny Tots Trick or Treat Bag
Pick up any small fabric tote bag with handles. Look for orange, black, or even denim. Lay the bag on a piece of newspaper, upside down. Have your child dip his or her hand, palm down, into some white craft paint (pour paint on a paper plate) and dab off the excess. Have your child make a handprint on the bag (fingertips should be facing the bottom of the bag). Turn the bag right side up and it looks like a ghost. Draw or glue on some eyes. To make handprint pumpkins, have your child make a fist and dip the bottom of his or her fist into orange paint. Press hand firmly onto fabric bag and decorate the pumpkin as desired. You can stencil on your child’s initials or spell out trick or treat if you like.
Duct Tape Tote Bag
All you have to do is cover a paper grocery sack (medium or large) completely with duct tape to make it durable and then add handles. Handles can be made by sticking two pieces of duct tape together, sticky side to sticky side, and leaving a little excess at each end to attach to the bag. Add staples if desired to strengthen the straps.
*You can use the same idea with brown paper lunch bags to make dress up purses. Just cut the bag down so it isn’t so tall.
