It seems it is so easy for those who are desperate for love and to meet Mr. Right, to be targeted and exploited by those looking for ways to make a quick few thousand. Such was the case for a 56 year old Australian woman who found her Mr. Right was in fact Mr. Wrong.
While the internet is great for lots of things even finding love, as I have heard of those who have met online and then fallen in love and later married. But this latest story only serves to highlight again the dangers of the internet and how susceptible those looking for love are and the need for those ready to give their heart to be extremely wary.
The Australian woman met this man on the internet in 2007. Over time, he persuaded her he was a 57 year white male and that he was madly in love with her..
Lawal Adekunle Nurudeen convinced this woman that he was Ben Lawson, a British widower and ‘an engineer working in Lagos whose wife and only child had been killed in a car accident.’
This woman was desperate for a husband and told the con man that she had been disappointed in love many times by men. Now she has been disappointed again. Unaware that it was a confidence trick and that he was an already married Nigerian man and father of three kids, she sent him sizeable amount money intended for medical treatment and travel costs to visit Australia.
It’s a sad state of affairs that those looking for love and for someone to share their lives with, are so easily duped into parting with their money. This man was caught but many of those that perpetuate these scams are never caught. It’s a warning to those looking for love to be wary and not assume someone is Mr. or perhaps Mrs. Right.
