Destinations for Hitting the Slopes

More and more families are learning the value of the family ski trip. In addition to great exercise, ski trips prepare families for future years of enjoyment while spending time in a winter wonderland. My family and I are avid skiers so I wanted to share some of my favorite destinations with you. If you have never skied before, a few days of lessons and everyone will have a ball.

First, I love Squaw Valley in the state of California. With more than 4,000 acres of beginner and intermediate runs, Squaw Valley gets our vote for an excellent destination for family vacations. You will be able to ski nine towering peaks of the finest snow in Tahoe. Squaw Valley offers excellent training courses, providing students of all ages with real means of improving their skiing ability. Therefore, if you are already a skier or just starting out, you will have every opportunity to ski at your level. The resort is beautiful, boasting great restaurants and accommodations. For Children 12 and under, they can ski and ride to the top of the mountain for just $5! In addition, to slopes that are well groomed, you will find Squaw Valley an affordable solution.

Then, if you head to British Columbia, Canada, you will find a magnificent place called Whistler-Blackcomb Ski Resort. For families looking for a real adventure, Whistler-Blackcomb Ski Resort in British Columbia is a great choice. There, you will find a dual resort that offers family-friendly zones, a Children’s Adventure Park, kid’s camps, and teenager’s runs, along with serious slopes for the extreme skier. The first thing you will notice is the crisp, clean air and beautiful mountains. The snow is soft and powdery, the activities abundant, and the ski professionals welcoming and helpful. Because of all this particular ski resort offers, it is rated as the number one ski resort in all of North America, perfect for skiing and snowboarding regardless of skill level

Of course, Snowbird in Salt Lake City, Utah is a favorite as well. Snowbird is a beautiful ski resort in a beautiful state. Offering 89 runs with 2,500 areas considered perfect for skiing, the entire family can enjoy the slopes. Of all the slopes available, 27% are dedicated to the beginner, 38% to intermediate skiers, and 35% to advanced so regardless of your level of skiing, you will have wonderful opportunities. In addition, Snowbird offers a number of unique kid’s ski free deals so when booking your family vacation make sure to ask about available programs. With deep, powdery snow, outstanding accommodations, and special amenities for mom and dad to include spa treatments, Snowbird should definitely be a top contender.

Finally, you can head to Vermont to Smuggler’s Notch, a gorgeous place to ski. With three interconnecting mountains, Smuggler’s Notch in Vermont has been a favorite ski resort geared toward families for years. Kids can enjoy Billy Bob Bear or Mogul Mouse runs while the experienced skier can take on the black diamonds. Smuggler’s Notch calls itself “America’s Family Resort” and for good reason. Having received a number of special awards for its children’s programs, you are guaranteed safety and fun. The village is charming so after time on the slopes, you and the family can shop or eat.
