So far I have talked about developing a seasonal cleaning plan and putting together seasonal cleaning supplies. As a reminder, seasonal cleaning deals with rooms and areas that you tend to get to about once-a-year.
Now we are going to focus on deep cleaning. This is your top-to-bottom cleaning. I usually do this type of cleaning twice-a-year, in the spring and the fall.
The system that works best for me is to empty the room. I will tell you it’s a pretty big undertaking, especially in certain rooms. So if you really want to do a good deep cleaning, make sure you have several hours or an entire day set aside for this.
What I usually do is spend two weekends deep cleaning. Most of the time it ends up taking place in the months of March and September. This is part of developing your plan. When will you tackle the deep cleaning?
Maybe summer and winter works best. Or it could be you prefer to do this type of thorough cleaning every season.
It’s entirely up to you. But the idea is to have a plan and to write it down. There is something about writing your plan out that makes it easier to stick to.
Once you have decided when you will tackle your deep cleaning, decide which rooms this will include. For me it’s usually the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom.
So I plan one weekend to tackle the living and dining rooms, and another weekend for the kitchen and bathroom. But you could also spread the jobs out.
For instance, let’s say these are the rooms you want to deep clean:
Kitchen
Bathroom
Bedroom
Living Room
Dining Room
Kids Bedroom
With six rooms, you could tackle one room a month and get it all done in the span of six months. Or you could skip months.
It would look like this:
January – Kitchen
March – Bathroom
May – Bedroom
July – Living Room
September – Dining Room
December – Kids Bedroom
The idea is to choose a schedule that works best for you. No matter how you slice it, in the end you will have a plan in place that is workable.
