Developmental Pediatrician Playdate

The day of our appointment with the developmental pediatrician finally arrived. The letter we got with our appointment date and time alerted us that the appointment would be long. I could not bring Baby E with us as we needed to concentrate on Jessie entirely. I always ask my neighbor and friend down the street first. Shannon is close and easy and our children are the same age. I love Shannon dearly and her family is my adopted Texas family.

I double booked sitters for this day and decided to go with my friend and fellow foster mom Hannah. Hannah has a six-year-old son whom Jessie knows from playdates and the foster parent meetings. I prepped Jessie well in advance that we were going to go to the doctor and then go to Hannah’s house to play with Peter.

Hannah met us in the doctor’s parking lot so I could install Baby E’s car seat base in her car and hand off the baby and her things. Hannah and I talked a little bit and then Hannah went to leave. I was walking to my car and Jessie was crying from her seat, “What about me?” It was so cute that I had to tell Hannah.

Jessie did everything the doctor asked of her, although she had a case of the sillies when the doctor tried to take her picture. I was very proud of her and the things she knows. Then we headed off for Hannah’s house to play with Peter. At one point she asked if we were almost there. We were. She yelled from the back seat, “Don’t worry Baby; we’re almost there.”

Jessie and Peter had a great time playing together. They built things with blocks and colored. We had pizza for dinner and then went home. We’ll have another playdate soon.
