Diaper Bags – What Are You Looking For?

The diaper bag is the mom’s best friend when she has a baby in her life. The diaper bag is the ultimate storage device and carries just about everything you are going to need for your baby when you are out and away from the house. Still, buying a diaper bag can be harder than finding the right crib, changing table or playpen. So if you’re still looking for that right one or you’re considering picking one up for someone as a baby shower gift – here’s a few questions to answer to help make the decision easier.

  • What size do you need? Because when you are choosing a diaper bag, size does matter. If you are going to be away from the house for long periods of time, you might want a large diaper bag, but for short sojourns a small one will suffice – many moms prefer to have two for just this reason
  • Backpack or Strap? Diaper bags come in a variety of formats – the backpack format is great because you have both hands free and the weight of the diaper bag is more evenly distributed
  • Do you breastfeed or use bottles or both? Mothers who nurse exclusively will not need as much space because bottles take up a lot of space – but a large bag is good for storing bottles for expressed milk especially if the dad or another caregiver will have the baby for a time
  • Do you use cloth or disposable diapers? – Cloth diapers take up a lot of room and you need more space to store the dirty ones – disposable diapers can be thrown away obviously when they are dirty or after a changing
  • Do you have a color preference? I’ve seen lots of moms not use a bag that was just right because they didn’t like the color – and there’s nothing wrong with that

So when you are out diaper bag shopping, ask yourself these questions and it can help make your shopping trip easier. Have you had a hard time finding the right diaper bag for you?
