Do you ever experience those moments with a pet that are just too cute to be real? Incidents that belong on the movie screen — or at least on a funny pet video show?
We recently had a young cat at the cats only boarding facility. An adorable grey tabby, less than a year old, with big eyes and a knack for getting into trouble. His name (Jinxie) totally suited him. And he did all kinds of cute things while he was with us:
- His curious paws would knock (or pull) things off the storage shelves. He actually managed to knock down an entire case of canned food! Impressive for such a little guy.
- He would roll over on his back like a puppy and let us rub his tummy.
- He would sleep cuddled up to a stuffed animal that was nearly as big as he is!
But one day last week, he truly did the Cutest Thing Ever.
I was kneeling on the floor, petting another cat. (Gasp! The nerve of some people!) My head happened to be at paw level from my cute little friend’s condo. In order to get my attention, he reached out and just — ever so gently — touched my mouth. It just about melted me! And it worked. I picked him up and cuddled him almost immediately.
Absolute cuteness is a dangerous weapon. It can make mischief like knocking over other cats’ food turn into “another cute thing the kitten did”. Too much absolute cuteness, and I suspect he’d be getting spoon fed gourmet cuts of tuna while sitting in my lap. I have a weakness when it comes to acts of absolute cuteness.
I know many animals have this gift. I’m sure I’ll see absolute cuteness again and again in my work at the boarding facility.
